The orange surprise

September 18, 2011 at 8:00 pm (Knitting, Toddler)

So, after The blue Suprise (a blob thing with a face I made for a friends baby which Lily loved), I decided to make her one to give her when the new baby arrived.

As it happened, the night I finished the knitting bit of it, I went into labour, so it sat in this state for three months:

I got annoyed with it.

Finally, I had some time (and the inclination) to finish it and now it looks like this:

She rolls around the floor with it and throws it about.

Rainbow jumper

September 11, 2011 at 7:57 pm (Knitting, Mens)

Ok, the picture does not do this thing justice as it was taken under artificial light :

The story behind this is that someone asked me to knit this years ago (around 6 years ago now) and as you can see, it didn’t get finished.

I lost contact with him and now I have this isn my house.  It’s actually rainbow stripes: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple (close enough).

I spent so long making it, I didn’t have the heart to destroy it.

Now I think I’m going to sew it up as it will take longer to unpick. I have an idea as to what I’m going to do with it then.

I am hoping to multitask and knit whilst playing online bingo.

I promise I’m not even 30 yet!

Shop fail.

April 11, 2011 at 11:48 pm (Knitting) (, , , )

So, as you can see, nothing to show for two months of planning a folksy shop.  Mum made a lot of stuff too.

I’m a little disappointed, but also going on mat leave Friday so I’m planning to knit up a few things.

I haven’t forgotten!

baby set

April 5, 2011 at 9:03 pm (Knitting) (, , , , )

As my belly expands and she recognises that babies need things like food and nappy changes, we are finding ourselves losing nappies and wipes to her dolls.

This set is designed so that she can tend to her baby whilst mummy tends to hers.

It’s been knitted from various scrap yarns I had laying about from my own designs for nappies, changing bags, simplistic wipes and a wipe pouch.    Hopefully, our days of being presented with a fresh nappy and her doll are over and instead, my other half will have to learn how the bobble fastening system works!

Pictures at last

March 3, 2011 at 9:42 pm (Baby, Knitting) (, , , , )

Although most people on Facebook will have seen these already.

Baby shoe!!   This is only a picture of the prototype, hence the ends sticking out and things.  The first real one is on its way.  About 4 rows left to go.  Then I have to knit its partner and the other parts of the ensemble and the first “alternative” pieces wil be ready.

They are pretty much all one of a kind as I knit on the fly (don’t really use patterns) and when I do jot things down, it’s not in a way that anyone can really know what I’m talking about (including me sometimes!)

I would have loved to have gotten both booties done tonight, but a) too tired and b) small child was using me as a climbing frame and doesn’t understand “be careful of the belly!”.  Urg.  Sometimes I love baby bedtime!

Still no pictures…

February 21, 2011 at 10:53 pm (Knitting) (, , , , , )

But we’re working on it.

The shop still needs a name. Mum thought of a good one – mumandme, but this name already exists on the net and I’m absolutely desperate not to tred on any toes anywhere. The last thing I need is a name dispute!

So, all ideas are welcome – sensible ones of course!

Turns out the vest I knitted over the weekend is preemie size. This is both a good and bad thing.

The better half had an idea for “advertising” too, but it’s still way too early to mention anything.

I must be the worst blog writer in the world!

Anyway, back to the knitting!

Been a while, so here’s an update…

February 20, 2011 at 11:02 pm (Knitting)

Not long after the last post I found out I was pregnant again. I’m just heading to 26 weeks now, but it’s not been an easy road!

I have been knitting frantically for the many new arrivals due this year (yes, pretty much everyone I know is dropping them.) and my mum and I are currently looking to build up a stock for a folksy shop selling mainly knitting babywear. We’re hoping to start listing the first items on March 1st. Our inventory will include new born vests, hats and booties, cuddle and swaddle blankets, cosytoes, 0-12 month hooded tops in more…shall we say unconventional colours, toddler dresses and a variety of funny shaped toddler hats based on my own daughters’ obsession with these items.

All this has meant I’ve sent the last few months patterning and designing, as well as knitting items for Christmas pressies!

Hopefully I’ll be able to post some knitting pics soon!

Impromptu project: snuggle square

September 14, 2010 at 10:01 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , )

We ended up taking a shopping trip today and in the wool shop I spotted some King Cole cuddles yarn.
I couldn’t resist letting the child feel it against her face…sooo soft.  When she saw the multi colour stuff her eyes lit up and she gasped.  So we purchased.

I just knit up a square of it for her to cuddle with.  I hope she likes it.

Icord fail, circular loom win

September 12, 2010 at 11:21 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

My knitting fail is the i-cord.  I know how to do it, but with two stitches, my tension goes dodgy and it tends to twist up. The cord on the left is one of my two stitch i-cords.
Because of my monumental failures with these cords I put off doing them and any project that requires them doesn’t get finished. ..until now.
The Mummy lent me a circular loom.  I’m sure when we were younget we used to call it french knitting.  After a false start and a slight knot at the beginning I’ve managed to make a cord which doesn’t look like someone chewed it up before putting it in the project. You can see this below on the right.
The only problem I have with the loom is I’m not sure I’m doing it properly amd it has given me aches where I don’t normally get them. Oh, and it takes a lot longer too.  I think the result is worth it though.
